Ian Postley is from Bishopville MD in Worcester County, not far from Ocean City. When he graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 2014 he knew he wanted to pursue something in the fine arts area. Children’s Home Foundation was pleased to be able to help Ian attend the Delaware School of Art and Design in Wilmington DE. In 2016 he graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in illustration. Today he is working out of his home studio as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. He recently showed his work at the Ocean City Center for the Arts First Friday event. Congratulations Ian!
Aaron's Story
Aaron Turner of Easton was recently awarded the Workforce Training Scholarship by the Children’s Home Foundation, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Easton.
A Chesapeake College employee for four years, Mr. Turner is a custodian with the Facilities Department. He has been taking Chesapeake classes for three years.
“We’ve found that nontraditional students like Aaron are a wonderful investment. They have clear goals and are highly motivated,” said Martha Austin, board member of the Children’s Home Foundation. “Through these scholarships, we can help individuals improve their lives and achieve their goals. We look forward to helping more students like Aaron.”
Mr. Turner, a 2010 Easton High School graduate, said the $1,350 scholarship will allow him to complete the Electrician Program in May.
“I’m grateful to have this help to finish my program. I’m learning valuable skills now that will give me opportunities,” Mr. Turner said.
April's Story
April Murphy Motovidlak graduated from St Michaels High school and attended Chesapeake College. With the help of a 3 year CHF scholarship, April received her RN from Macqueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing. While working in the Emergency Room at the then Easton Memorial Hospital, April returned to school in Baltimore for her BS in Nursing and eventually her Masters in Science. She has been employed by Shore Medical Center since 1999 and would tell you that without the financial and moral support of the Children’s Home, her successes would have been much more difficult. April lives in Wittman with her husband John their and 2 children. April has no education debt.
Joscelyn's Story
Joscelyn Bolainez McKinney graduated from Easton High School in 2012. After interning with Dr. Margret Quimby her senior year Joscelyn enrolled in the pre-dental hygiene program at Chesapeake College. After 3 semesters of an extra heavy course load and waitressing she was accepted into the Community College of Baltimore County dental hygiene program. This is a competitive program based on grades and resume, only 40 students are accepted. Two years and 54 credits later, Joscelyn graduated from CCBC with a dental hygiene degree and the school award for best clinical hygienist. She passed her National and State Board exams and is fully licensed. She has no student debt and would like to eventually attain a BS degree. Children’s Home Foundation was pleased to be able to support her throughout her schooling and accreditation.
Katherine's Story
Katherine B. Nater graduated in the spring of 2017 from the Macqueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills MD. She is a 3-year recipient of a Children’s Home Foundation scholarship and has finished her schooling without student debt. Katherine’s future looks very bright. She now has the career options and opportunities that come with continued education. Katherine is a great example of how a CHF scholarship can support a motivated student.
Katie's Story
Katie Davidson graduated from Kent County High School in 2003 and received a Children’s Home Foundation scholarship to attend Schilling-Douglas School of Hair Design in Newark Delaware. For 11 months, Katie commuted daily from her parent’s home in Worton MD to the school and all the while continued to work on weekends for JBK Ace Hardware in Chestertown MD. Within months of completion of her course work, Katie was hired by Mary McHenry at ‘Images Salon and Day Spa’ in Kennedyville MD. Katie is still at ‘Images’ and loves going to work every single day and she is still grateful to CHF for the scholarship. Jane Hukill, Katie’s CHF sponsor, has watched Katie’s succeed and is thrilled for her. Katie was recently a top 10 nominee for the National Salon Industry Customer Service Award.
Marc's Story
Marc Bridges graduated from St Michaels High school and attended Georgetown-Delaware Technical Community College (Del Tech) in Georgetown Delaware. He graduated with an Associate’s degree in Auto Mechanics. Marc was a 2 year recipient of a CHF scholarship and says it was “…a huge huge help”. After 4 years working in a local auto shop, Marc opened Bridges Automotive Service Center in Tilghman MD. He has 5 full time employees and all live in the St. Michaels area. He lives in Sherwood with his wife and 2 children. He has no student debt.
