Types of Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to residents of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, regardless of ethnicity, religion or age who are in need of financial aid to obtain a degree or certification in a career or tech area. Aid may continue through the end of a program of study with demonstrated success.   We do not grant funds to four-year colleges or universities or liberal arts studies.

All scholarship applications are administered by board members from the applicant’s county of residence.   County directors often take a personal interest in their grantees and are available for advice and encouragement throughout their course of study.

Final grants are based on a CHF application, a financial statement, references and a personal interview.

CHF offers two types of scholarships, traditional and non-traditional.

Traditional Scholarships

Traditional scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors.   Applications are accepted in the spring of the student’s senior year and awards are granted in April and May.   Board members present the award at their Senior Awards Night.

Non-Traditional Scholarships

Non-traditional scholarship applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.  These students are post graduates looking to enhance their employment opportunities through skills training.
